Swoosie is the only child of novelist Margo Rogers and Colonel Frank Allen Kurtz Jr. of the United States Air Force. Her name comes from one of the remaining Boeing B-17D Flying Fortress aircraft that her father piloted during WWII. Due to his employment, his family travelled frequently when he was a youngster.
She attended the University of Southern California (USC) after graduating from high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in acting. She continued her education at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, which has produced a number of high-profile theatrical and Hollywood performers.
