Steve Easterbrook was born in the United Kingdom in August 1967 as Stephen James Easterbrook. He grew up in Watford and attended Watford Grammar School for Boys for his early education. He’d been a fan of McDonald’s burgers since he was 11 years old, and would occasionally take the train to Harrow to sample the Big Macs on sale.
He continued his studies at Durham University College, where he majored in natural sciences. Here, he took up cricket, and one of his fellow student cricketers was Nasser Hussain, who subsequently went on to become the captain of England’s test team.
Easterbrook worked as a trainee accountant with Price Waterhouse after graduating from university. Easterbrook’s first job was at McDonald’s in year 1993. He began his career as a finance manager in London.
He spent the next five years optimizing operations in the United Kingdom. He went to Hamburger University in Chicago for 18 months of instruction.
Upon his return to England, he took a number of steps to help the corporation achieve more profitability in the United Kingdom. Easterbrook was handed responsibility for other northern countries within a few months. He was named Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s UK in year 2006.
He was named President of McDonald’s Europe in year 2010. Easterbrook departed McDonald’s in year 2011 because he thought he was denied the opportunity and responsibility for a larger worldwide role.
He changed jobs and now works for Pizza Express. He rose to the position of CEO. He moved jobs yet again, this time to become the CEO of Wagamama.
Both of these enterprises are at the top of the UK’s casual and fast-food restaurant chains. Easterbrook returned to McDonald’s in year 2013 after a long absence. He was eventually moved to Chief Branding Officer in the United Kingdom, as well as Head of UK Operations, where he was responsible for all of Northern Europe. Later, he was transferred to Chicago to take on a more worldwide position.

Easterbrook took over as CEO of MacDonald’s in March 2015, after Don Thompson, the previous CEO, stepped down on 28 January 28 2015. Easterbrook was offered a $1 million basic pay plus a performance-based yearly incentive of up to 160% of his base salary. Easterbrook’s total salary nearly doubled to $15 million in year 2016.
