Shane MacGowan is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician who was born in England. He is best known as the main vocalist and lyricist for the Pogues, a Celtic punk band. Additionally, he was a member of the Nipple Erectors and Shane Macgowan and the Popes, in addition to producing solo songs and collaborating with musicians such as Kirsty MacColl, Joe Strummer, Nick Cave, Steve Earle, Sinead Connor, and Ronnie Drew.

Life & Career |
Macgowan was born in Pembury, on 25th of December 1957, as the son of Irish immigrants. His father was a native of Dublin, while his mother was a native of Tipperary. Therese, his mother, was a typewriter and had previously worked as a singer and traditional Irish dancer. Maurice, his father, was from a middle-class family and worked in the offices of department store.
Macgowan grew up in a variety of locations around southeast England and went to the English public school for his studies. He graduated from Holmewood school located in Langton Green, in 1971. And then he was admitted to Westminster School.
However, he was dismissed from his second year after being involved in narcotics. He made his first public debut in 1976 during a London music band The Clash. Shortly thereafter, he founded The Nipple Erectors, his own punk band.
He left the band in the early 1990s and formed Shane Macgowan and The Popes, which has issued two studio albums, a live DVD, and a live album. Throughout the mid-2000s, the ensemble performed throughout Europe. In 2001, he headlined a tour with The Pogues and thus made huge news, and afterwards he returned each year between 2004 and 2009.
His formal reunion with The Pogues occurred in 2005, when the group reissued Fairytale of New York, which peaked at number two in the United Kingdom. He joined The Shane Gang 5 years later and tours often with them when not performing with The Pogues.
Macgowan has been on over a dozen different artists’ tracks, most notably Dropick Murphys and The Priests. He has struggled with illegal usage and abuse for the most of his life and made news when Sinead Connor reported him to London police for illegal possession. Macgowan has thanked Connor for assisting him in achieving sobriety.
