Rajon Pierre Rondo was born in Louisville, Kentucky on 22 February 1986. He was mostly raised by his mother and three siblings, as Rajon’s father abandoned the family when he was seven years old. Although Rondo would eventually become a basketball superstar, as a boy he was captivated to football. His mother, on the other hand, urged him to focus on basketball instead, fearful that football might take a toll on the boy’s physique.
Rondo rapidly distinguished himself as a gifted basketball player throughout his high school years. He went to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia after 3 years at his hometown high school in Louisville, where he averaged 21 points per game as a senior.
Additionally, he amassed more than 303 assists, shattering the school record. During this time period, he also received several other prizes and distinctions and began generating substantial national buzz.
Despite several scholarship offers, Rajon opted to attend the University of Kentucky. Although Rondo excelled throughout his time at Kentucky and led the team to a handful of victories, the squad never advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four in either his freshman or sophomore year.
Rondo opted to quit college in 2006 in order to be eligible for the NBA Draft. The Phoenix Suns selected him 21st overall and quickly traded him to the Celtics on draught day. Rondo was the draft’s first point guard selection.
