Linus Torvalds, the successful person was born in year 1969 in Finland. His parents, Nils and Anna Torvalds, were also journalists. He belongs to a long line of succession of scholars. His parents were both radicals at Helsinki University. His famous grandparents were statistician Leo Törnqvist and poet Ole Torvalds.
At the University of Helsinki, Linus Torvalds studied computer science and was a member of the NODES research group. The compulsory military service in Finland ended his academic career after one year. After an 11-month officer training programme, he was promoted to 2Lt. After his military service, he went to university and was introduced to the UNIX operating system.
Linus’ interest with computers began when he was 11 and bought a Commodore VIC/20. His profession began to take shape once he got an Intel based IBM PC. Along with the PC, he bought a MINIX operating system and started working on LINUX.
Linux was first published as a prototype in 1991, and then as LINUX Version 1 in 1994. Linus then worked for Transmeta in California for almost six years. Afterwards, he got the opportunity to join the Source Development Labs, which afterwards merged with Free Group to become the Linus Foundation.
He started working on a file format for an X86 machine. ‘860pen’ is a Unix-like operating system binary file format. Linus was offered shares in Red Hat and VA Linux after the win. Some may consider it lucky that both company went public the same year he bought the stocks, doubling their value.
Linus was surrounded by success. Linus and his family moved to Oregon. He bought a house near the Source Development Labs in Beaverton, Oregon. Linus had a great time in Oregon and rapidly built the software known as Git. He wrote roughly 2% of the Linux Kernel, which is substantial in the software sector.
