On the slopes, she had always been competitive, striving to keep up with Ben or her father.

Jacobellis also earned a gold medal in the mixed team snowboard cross at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, alongside colleague Nick Baumgartner.
She started out as a skier, but when she was eight years old, her family’s home caught fire, destroying all of her equipment, she switched to snowboarding. She graduated from Stratton Mountain School in Vermont in year 2003, a college preparation high school that focuses on creating winter athletes. She was the lone female snowboard cross competitor, and the individuals she claims she battled impacted her approach toward the sport.
At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Jacobellis became the Olympic champion in snowboard cross for the fifth time. The United States won their first gold medal in Beijing, breaking a five-day gold medal drought. Several media sites praised her for persevering in her pursuit of Olympic gold after a 16-year search. Jacobellis won the mixed team snowboard cross for the first time with partner Nick Baumgartner, following up her solo gold.
