Josh Michael Widdicombe was born in Hammersmith, London, on 8th April 1983, and grew up in Haytor Vale, near Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Devon. He then went to Dartmoor Community College before going to the University of Manchester to study sociology and linguistics. Widdicombe worked as a sports journalist for The Guardian before becoming a comedian.
Widdicombe began performing live in 2008, and in the same year, he reached the final of So You Think You’re Funny, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He participated with James Acaster and Nick Helm in the sketch show Superclump in 2009, where he co-wrote and performed.
Widdicombe worked as a contributor for Dora the Explorer magazine in 2010, and in 2011 he debuted his solo show, If This Show Saves One Life, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, for which he was nominated for Best Newcomer by the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards and the Malcolm Hardee Award.
When Widdicombe first appeared on Mock the Week in July 2012, he had already established himself as a regular on Stand Up for the Week. Along with Adam Hills and Alex Brooker, he was a major contributor to Channel 4’s daily alternative analysis of each day’s events during the London 2012 Summer Paralympics, The Last Leg with Adam Hills.
In September 2012, Widdicombe and co-host of The Last Leg, Brooker, appeared on The Million Pound Drop. The duo was awarded £100,000 for their chosen charity. Josh Widdicombe appeared as a guest on Dara Briain School of Hard Sums with Marcus Brigstocke in the 2nd season. Following that, he appeared as a comic on The Apprentice.

Due to their increasingly hectic schedules, both hosts confirmed on 10 August 2016, that they will not be returning to the show for Series 14 in September.
Widdicombe appeared in the BBC Show named Comedy Feeds, featuring as the pilot Josh, in August of year 2014. Josh, directed by Schneider, aired on BBC Three for a complete 6-episode season from November 11 to December 16, 2015.
Widdicombe was a competitor on the inaugural season of Dave’s game show Taskmaster in 2015, and he won the series. He also received a tattoo of host Greg Davies’ name on his left foot for one of the jobs. In the second series, he returned for a team job alongside Richard Osman and Jon Richardson.
