Isaiah Rashad was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States on May 16, 1991. His father unfortunately left him and his mother when Rashad was 3 years old. Rashad was accompanied by his mother, a former hairdresser. He had already made up his mind to become a preacher. After his stepbrother lent him a CD of the famed hip hop duo’s studio album “ATLiens,” his focus shifted to music.
When Isaiah was at school, he was listening to the songs from OutKast’s album “ATLiens.” He began to spend his days rapping routinely after that. When he was in 10th grade, he began to take rapping seriously. Rashad even went by the stage name Zay Taylor and rapped. He attended Middle Tennessee State University after graduating from high school.
As he grew older, Isaiah had a tremendous affinity for music. He also dropped out of school and began living wherever he could produce music. Rashad began to form relationships with other musicians, including as DJ Z and Jeff Weiss, over time. On the 2012 Smoker’s Club Tour, he had his professional breakthrough as he toured with well-known rappers.
Following the trip, Rashad began to attract the attention of numerous record labels. However, he showed little interest in record firms and instead headed to SoundCloud to distribute free tracks, which helped him get some early exposure.
In March 2013, Isaiah signed with Top Dawg Entertainment, an independent record label. Then he relocated to Los Angeles, where he began living and recording at TDE Red Room Studio.
After releasing his debut EP, Cilvia Demo, on January 28, 2014, Rashad gained huge recognition. The EP was widely praised and reached number 40 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. On September 2, 2016, Isaiah released his debut studio album, “The Sun’s Tirade,” to tremendous critical acclaim.
On July 30, 2021, Isaiah released his second studio album, “The House Is Burning.” At the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards, he performed two songs off the album. Rashad was featured on the singles “Wat U Said” with Doechii and Kal Banx, as well as “From the Garden” with Lil Uzi Vert.
