Rebecca Hammon is an American-Russian professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces of the Women’s National Basketball Association. She was previously an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association.

Becky Hammon was born on 11th of March 1977. Rebecca Lynn Hammon was born to Russian parents Bev and Martin Hammon in Rapid City, South Dakota. Inspite of being born in the United States of America, she availed the citizenship of Russia also, in year 2008. Becky is an American as well as a Russian citizen, belonging to white ethnic group, and being a passionate Christian by religion.
She studied fundamental basketball basics at home when she was a child. While playing Nerf ball with her elder brother and father, she learnt how to dribble a basketball. In addition, she graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota and she was also known as the Miss Basketball for South Dakota.
Becky was a member of her college basketball team throughout her time there. In her time with the Colorado State Rams, she was a productive scorer. It made her a 3-time All-American and the Colorado Sportswoman of the Year. She also coached the team to a 33-3 record in 1998-99, moving them to the Sweet 16of the NCCA Tournament.
She also won the WAC Mountain Division Player of the Year award for the 1998-99 season after defeating Keith Van Horn of the University of Utah. She holds several Colorado state marks, including 2740 points, 21 points per game, and 918 field goals made.
Becky joined with the Women’s National Basketball Association on 12 May 1999, after developing a solid fan following throughout her collegiate years. She became a member of the New York Liberty, an American professional basketball club as her energetic performance on both ends of the floor made her a fan favorite among Liberty supporters.
Soon after the 2003 season, she replaced Weatherspoon as the Liberty’s starting point guard, and she was named one of the team’s co-captains in 2004 with Vickie Johnson and Crystal Robinson. She signed with the Colorado Chill in 2004, but was only able to play 2 games due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury in her right knee that prevented her from playing.
She reached the milestone of 2000 points in her WNBA career on 16 August 2005 and by the end of the 2005 season, she had been chosen to the ALL-WNBA second team. Furthermore, in January of 2007, she spent her WNBA off-season with the Rivas Futura of the Spanish League.
She became the 5th player in WNBA history to record 5000 points on 31st of August 2011. She also scored 37 points in a playoff-clinching win over the Los Angeles Sparks the following year before retiring from the WNBA in 2014. She was named to the WNBA All-Star team 6 times.
Furthermore, she received the Ring of Honor during halftime of a game between the New York Liberty and the Seattle Storm, which elevated her career. This award is granted to players who have contributed significantly to Liberty’s heritage of excellence as well as the WNBA’s growth. Becky retired her No 25 jersey before the Atlanta Dream game on 25 June 2016.
Becky wanted to be a coach once she retired as a player. After being encouraged to share her thoughts, she began visiting the NBA’s San Antonio practices, coach meetings, and games on a regular basis, due to which she was appointed as an assistant coach with the Spurs.
